The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that 2016: Obama’s America took in 1.2 million over the weekend and its theater coverage is expanding from 61 to 169 theaters. It is the number 2 non-nature documentary so far this year.
The documentary is based on conservative author Dinesh D’Souza’s book The Roots of Obama’s Rage. The movie, co-directed by D’Souza and John Sullivan, will be playing in 1,075 theaters in an aggressive expansion that comes on the eve of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., which gets underway Aug. 27.
The film was number 3 in the Union Square theater in New York. One film executive joked that they must have thought it was a pro-Obama film. There are no reports of how many people walked out.
Wow! That’s incredible. I meant to go see it in New York last weekend – I just wanted to see the audience’s reaction. So after reading this – I’m determined to go this weekend!
What a powerful movie! The interview of Obama’s brother, Obama’s own voice and words, his actions, and role models all support the grounded theory. I see things in a completely different light. I am not a gullible person and it typically takes quite a bit to convince me of what seemingly appears to be a one-sided viewpoint of a political viewpoint, as I am a true independent voter, but now I see how the thesis matches with Obama’s actions. My hope is that fair-minded critics will not be afraid of the toxic far-left, and give it the review it deserves. The movie needs to be seen by the American voters before November. Having so few major critic reviews may keep many people out of the theater, I’m afraid. I hope not . . . It’s one of the best documentaries I’ve seen.
