Assessor’s Office announces reclassification of residential property

Pursuant to House Bill 2001(Primary and Secondary residences), the Assessor’s office mailed the Notice of Reclassification of Residential Property on September 28, 2012.  This notice was sent to taxpayers notifying them of their legal class based on information previously provided by the taxpayers in the First and Final Notice of Classification. If you received a Notice of Reclassification and disagree with the reclassification you have 30 days from the mail date listed on the form to appeal with the Clerk of Board.  For information regarding the appeals process and to download the Property Tax Classification Appeal form please visit the Clerk of the Board’s website at http://www.coconino.az.gov/clerk.aspx?id=11020.

In our opinion: Border patrol death raises questions about border security

The issue of illegal immigration is not relevant in the context of Agent Ivie’s death. It is about the rule of law on this side of the border, where we have been and should remain vigilant against the import of narcotics from the Mexican cartels.

The death of a border patrol agent in what appears to be an ambush by drug smugglers is a tragic loss for his family and the community at large, and a sad reminder of the treacherous duty facing those assigned to keep the border secure.

Agent Nicholas J. Ivie, who grew up in Provo, leaves a widow and two young daughters. He is remembered as a man dedicated to his family, stalwart in his duty to the border patrol, a leader in his church, a man who had many friends, and at the age of 30, a full life ahead of him.

Border Patrol shooting: 2 held in Nicholas Ivie’s death, reports say friendly fire also possible

NACO, AZ – Federal investigators are looking into the possibility the deadly shooting of a Border Patrol agent in southern Arizona Tuesday was the result of friendly fire, according to a Thursday report.

NBCNews.com said the investigators are trying to determine if officials accidentally shot each other, despite initial reports which claimed armed criminals were responsible for the incident. Read more.

U.S. Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Ivie was killed in the early morning shooting in Naco. Another agent was injured and a third agent escaped unharmed.

Federal police have arrested two men who may be connected with the fatal shooting just north of the Mexico-Arizona border, a Mexican law enforcement official said Thursday.

Judge shuts down Christian health ministry in Ky.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A Christians-only health care ministry must cease operations in Kentucky unless it can get regulatory approval from the state Department of Insurance, a judge ruled Tuesday.

The ruling by Franklin County Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate means Medi-Share, a Florida-based cost-sharing ministry, can no longer accept money or help pay medical bills for churchgoers in Kentucky.

Medi-Share closely resembles secular insurance, but only allows participation by people who pledge to live Christian lives that include no smoking, drinking, using drugs or engaging in sex outside of marriage.

Northern Arizona Authors Association October meeting

WILLIAMS—The next meeting of the Northern Arizona Authors Association will be Saturday October 13 at Camp Civitan. The meeting will start at 10 am and authors are encouraged to bring material to read to the group. The book collection of short stories by the authors of the group will also be discussed.

In addition, the filmmakers and actors may be filming the trailer for the book “River Thunder.” Anyone involved in the project are urged to come early.

There will be a hike to the edge of Cataract Canyon to film the trailer or just for fun if no filming is done.

Outdoor wear and good shoes for hiking through the forest are recommended.

The camp is located at 5008 North Civitan Road in Williams, Arizona.
