Windows users notified Windows 10 coming July 29

Windows10-01Microsoft passed its original June estimation for release of Windows 10. It appears to be set for the July 29 release of the new operating system. So much so that you might have even got a notification to reserve your copy today.

I know this because my system began dragging this morning for no apparent reason. A notification appeared on my task bar alerting me to reserve my copy of Windows 10. I clicked it to get the window in the graphic above which led me to the window following.
Windows10-02

If you are operating in Windows 8.1, a notification should have appeared in the notification section of your task bar to the right. This notification is to reserve your copy, not to download it. You will be notified when the installation files have been added to your system. You can proceed with the installation anytime thereafter.

According to the Windows 10 Q&A page:

For devices running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update with Windows Update enabled, the app shows up automatically as a Windows icon in your system tray at the bottom right-hand side of your screen.
The only requirements are that a) your device is compatible, and b) you’re running genuine Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 8.1 (Update).
Windows 10 is designed to run on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 PCs. That means your device is likely compatible and will run Windows 10.

There are many theories as to why Windows 10 and no Windows 9. The fact is, however, that Windows 10 will be the newest upgrade to the Microsoft operating system.

The upgrade is absolutely free and will be available to those using Windows 7 SP1 or later. This is probably because Microsoft is rather red faced about the worse operating system since Vista. Microsoft is hoping to correct many of the terrible features of the Windows 8 operating system. If the videos produce on line are any indication, they may have succeeded.

Apps will now be adjustable in size and you can use them while remaining in the desktop. You will be able to snap up to four windows in place on your screen and swtich between them simply by selecting them. They will have the familiar “X” on the right side of the menu bar at the top like any other program or application. You simply click on it to close it out. Instead of having to go to the “Apps Page” to start an app, you will be able to pin it to the Windows Start menu button on the desktop. There are a myriad of other proposed improvements. Some have been tried in the beta copies and some may not make it into the final version.

The Q&A page goes on to explain that it could take up to an hour to complete the installation on older systems. On newer systems, it could take as little as 20-minutes. They recommend that you plan for an hour. It is also a good idea to back up any important data whenever installing any upgrade this massive.

After you reserve your upgrade, you can confirm whether or not your device is compatible with Windows 10.

Between reservation and when your upgrade is ready, the files you need for the upgrade will be downloaded to your PC to make the final installation go more quickly. Then, when your upgrade is ready after July 29, 2015, you get a notification that lets you get started with your upgrade.
Get Windows 10 is an app that’s designed to make the upgrade process easy. It checks to make sure your device is compatible, and it reserves your free upgrade; it also has information to help you learn about the features in Windows 10.

It will be interesting to see if, this time, Microsoft lives up to its own hype.

Bill to allow automatic restoration of voting rights introduced

Frederica Wilson, D-FL24

Frederica Wilson, D-FL24

WASHINGTON — Representative Frederica Wilson of Florida introduced H.R. 1556 to allow non-violent felons to vote.

The bill would not allow the denial or abridgement of voting rights of U.S. citizens who commit non-violent criminal offenses once released. The bill excepts those currently incarcerated. The Attorney General would establish a list of felonies considered non-violent under federal and State laws.

If the individual is released on probation, their right to vote would begin at the end of probation if the probation is less than a year. If the person is on probation for more than a year, then their voting right would be automatically restored one year from the date probation began.

The law would establish notification requirements for prisons and jails. A State, local government or other person would not be allowed to receive federal funds to construct or improve, “…a place of incarceration unless that person has in effect a program under which each incarcerated individual is notified, upon release, of his or her rights under this Act.”

The bill only allows for voting in federal elections and does not affect State laws. Arizona Revised Statute 13-905 outlines the procedure for restoration of civil rights which begins at the end of any probation period after incarceration.

The bill, of course, does not go far enough. It does not allow the automatic restoration of Second Amendment rights for the same non-violent offenses.

Study: Average Attention Span Now 8 Seconds – Lower than a Goldfish

Girls-on-mobile-phones-004A study from Microsoft involving more than 2,000 people has found that the average attention span has dipped to a low 8 seconds – down from 12 seconds in 2000. A goldfish has an attention span of 9 seconds.

There are many effects from smartphones and the like on the human body which are never written about. Information technology (IT) is much more powerful in unrecognized ways than is generally acknowledged.

Because these various IT devices are often very close to a person’s body, they can and do have profound effects on the human bioelectric field. The key factor in this ever-intensifying dynamic between human and technology is the length of time of daily interaction.

In other words, picking up a cellphone to make a couple of calls a day is one thing; being tied to your smartphone 24 hour a day, 7 days a week is something altogether different. Herein lies one of the key causes of the shrinking attention span. Additionally, constant exposure to cell phones near our heads may be dangerous.

IPhoneConservative teaches Poe’s Law

Untitled-1
A YouTube video was published on May 20, 2015 by IPhoneConservative which will probably go viral without the warning he or she attaches.

For those that understand “Poe’s Law” no further disclaimer is required. For those that don’t………I suggest you look it up.

WikiPedia calls Poe’s Law a “literary adage” and attributes it to a post by Nathan Poe in a 2005 debate on a Christian forum concerning creation v. evolution.

POE’S LAW:

Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is uttrerly [sic] impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won’t mistake for the genuine article. Source

The idea is that one should mark their statements on the Internet because one cannot see the body language or hear the inflections in the voice of the individual to tell if it is real or sarcasm. This does not apply to writing such as the Right Wing Extremism memorandum.

He was attacking the intelligence of Christians.

IPhoneConservative admitted in one of the comments:

Folks…….this a spoof. It was never intended to be taken as a legitimate news report. Obviously two things are at play here. One, I did the job too well. Two, we have come to the stage in the Obama presidency where quite literally……….anything is possible.

Anything indeed. Just after the initial “election” of Barrack Obama, I received a series of interesting phone calls which I reported on. The most interesting was the audio I was able to obtain.

I do not have statistics on how many people actually fell into the scam. I do not know how many people actually believed that Obama was going to pay for their mortgage, car, gas or Obamaphone.

Tennessee Pastor and veteran completes 3,200-Mile National Prayer Walk

PC_EndofTrail1SANTA MONICA — Tennessee Pastor Walter “Chick” McGill passed through Williams on a blistery February day this year carrying the flag. His goal was to carry the flag from Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina to Santa Monica pier. The 69 year-old Vietnam veteran completed the 3,200-mile journey on April 29.

Pastor McGill was greeted by supporters and social media contacts. Los Angeles-based ABC Eyewitness News 7 documented his arrival at the Pier.

640-McGill-01Pastor McGill hand-carried his large American flag the full distance from coast to coast and saluted every passing motorist on the walk route as a gesture of honor and respect for his fellow Americans. He received a “Day of Recognition” certificate from Tennessee Governor Haslam’s office in Nashville, and numerous cities along the 14-state route demonstrated recognition by giving the veteran city lapel pins, keys to their cities, city memorial coins, and certificates of appreciation. McGill received police escorts through towns in Georgia and Tennessee and was published at Wikipedia online as one who had successfully walked across America.

McGill’s “TransAmerican Crosswalk 2014,” billed as a national prayer-walk, promoted “’a new birth of freedom’ and integrity in America,” while calling attention to the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, and the nation’s founding documents.

Golfer Bob Estes corrects tweet

BobEstes-tweet-1Professional golfer Bob Estes made a “tweet” after the shooting in Garland, Texas. His first tweet indicated that he felt that the Islam terrorists were exercising their Second Amendment rights in shooting people at the First Amendment display in Garland, Texas sponsored by Pamela Geller.

Estes, who describes himself as a Christian conservative, corrected his tweet later fearing that his first might be misunderstood.BobEstes-tweet-2To his credit, Estes did attempt to correct the misunderstanding. Unfortunately the tweet shows a lack of understanding of the Second Amendment prevalent in society. The Second Amendment does not allow the use of any weapon for criminal activity.

The Second Amendment does not specifically protect “firearms.” The Second Amendment reads:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

This statement actually makes three points. 1st, that the “People” are the militia. Not the National Guard. 2nd, that an armed people are the only protection of a free State.

The 3rd, and most important to this discussion, is that all arms, or weapons, are protected by the Second Amendment. A reading of Federalist Paper No. 29 reveals that training and arming the people equal to any standing army that might exist in the future is the only protection against the rise of tyranny.

So important was this that President George Washington established the Springfield Armory to keep the people armed with the latest weapons and devises of warfare.

There was no standing army until after the American Civil war. West Point was established as a training center for officers to take command of State militias in the event of a national emergency, such as was necessary in the War of 1812 and even the Civil War.

Benjamin Franklin noted this in his publication Information to Those Who Would Remove to America.

These Ideas prevailing more or less in all the United States, it cannot be worth any Man’s while, who has a means of Living at home, to expatriate himself, in hopes of obtaining a profitable civil Office in America; and, as to military Offices, they are at an End with the War, the Armies being disbanded.

The Second Amendment, in short, is to prevent this sort of activity by protecting the borders of the United States. That responsibility, in the Constitution, is placed on the militia. The Constitution lays the responsibility of ensuring that the militia is armed with “military-style” weapons on the national government in Washington D.C.
