Kelly-Lynn Moede took the helm of the event this year. She and her volunteers did a good job of setting up the event. The American Legion Cordova Post #13 ran the barbecue pit, again, distributing cheeseburgers and hot dogs for the volunteers after the clean up. APS provided trash bags for the volunteers to use.
This year they added a You Found What? game for an extra prize along with the regular eggs with cash prizes. Of course it was the individual and service group volunteers that loaded the sixteen-tons of garbage in the bins to be sent to the transfer station.Category Archives: Clean and Beautiful
Another Clean and Beautiful for Williams
WILLIAMS — Another Clean and Beautiful event passes despite inclement weather. The weather cleared up later on in the event allowing citizens to clean up around Williams.
Northern Arizona Gazette collected three bags of trash plus two separate bags of recyclable materials.
The event ended with a barbecue by the members of the American Legion Cordova Post #13.
Winter storm dampers Clean and Beautiful and Kite Day
WILLIAMS – Rain, snow and high winds stopped plans in the city of Williams for the annual Clean and Beautiful campaign and Kite Festival. Both activities are generally scheduled just after Easter and the day is normally warm and sunny. This is the first time that it has dampened the plans for Clean and Beautiful.
The weather started about 2 am with rain turning into snow in the morning. Visibility dropped to about 100 yards, but some people still took advantage of the electronics waste disposal sponsored by the City of Williams at the rodeo barn.
The visibility increased later in the morning, but snow continued to fall. The weather service predicts the snow to continue in Williams and Flagstaff through the night clearing by tomorrow morning. 1-3 inches of snow accumulation is expected. Temperatures should rise to the 70s by next Saturday.
The weather was enough to kill events and the gardens people may have planted, but not enough to make up for the loss of snow over the winter months.
Williams Clean and Beautiful campaign
WILLIAMS—The Williams Clean and Beautiful campaign kicked off today with civic and local groups cleaning up Williams and along highway 64 to the Grand Canyon.
Each year Williams conducts a major clean-up allowing residents to dispose of hazardous material without a fee. Western Recyclers returned to pick up spent electronics. For the rest of the week, residents can contact the city to pick up one major appliance.
As usual, the veterans of the American Legion Cordova Post #13 in Williams did an excellent job of cooking and serving up hot dogs and hamburgers for participants and guests.
Forecast includes clear for Clean and Beautiful
WILLIAMS—The seven-day forecast shows an 80% chance of rain for Thursday night with a slight chance Friday. However it is predicted to clear for the Williams Clean and Beautiful campaign Saturday.
The clean-up event ends with a barbeque around noon after completion at the Recreation Center. Everyone is invited to join the event by showing up at the Recreation Center parking lot by the new community stage to get a bag for trash.
Williams, like other communities, still has a problem with plastic bag flags and aircraft blowing in the wind. The issue was taken up once, but the problem continues. Safeway was collecting bags returned to the store for recycling. They can, also, be used in some trash containers as alternative trash bags or used to clean up after your pets when walking them as required by city ordinance.
For smoking visitors or residence, the Williams Chamber located in the Williams Visitor Center offers pocket ash trays which can be used while walking through town. They are safer than dropping your cigarette butts into a trash can and can be disposed of later.
In addition residents can dispose of spent electronics at the dump located on Rodeo Road next to the Rodeo grounds. Residents have a week after to dump yard trash for free. They can also call the city to get rid of one used appliance.
