Flagstaff experiences climate change

IMG_20150613_122030FLAGSTAFF— Flagstaff today received a graphic demonstration climate change. While the Sun brightened up the San Francisco Peaks, it rained in Flagstaff proper.

A few lightning strikes were noticed, and this storm front appears to be moving towards Williams.

The rain continues

300-150610_120912WILLIAMS — Williams received a heavy dose of rain overnight and into the morning which cleared up mostly by about 9 a.m. Clouds continued to roll over through about 1 p.m leaving only trace rains in their wake. Currently it is partly cloudy.

The long range forecast shows:

This Afternoon: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. South wind 5 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Light south wind becoming southwest 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 47. West southwest wind 9 to 14 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming west southwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 77.

Flagstaff enjoys about the same weather pattern with a 10% higher chance of rain throughout the reported period.

Rain forecasts for the rest of the week

640-clouds-clock001WILLIAMS — We can see by the ol’ Williams clock that Williams has moved into the 40% chance of rain forecast for this afternoon. The forecast for Flagstaff is about the same.

As of this writing, there is a 40% chance of rain this afternoon rising to 60% tonight. Flagstaff has a 50% chance this afternoon and 60% overnight. The chance of showers and thunderstorms hovers around 30% through Friday afternoon.

Ash Fork can also expect showers and thunderstorms throughout week with a 10% less chance as Williams.

Bellemont gets hit first

640-15-05-15-11WILLIAMS — A winter storm warning has been issued for northern Arizona as snow and fog is predicted overnight. There is an 80% chance of snow overnight in Williams with a possibility of up to 2-inches. There is a 20% chance of snow and rain Saturday clearing by Sunday. Flagstaff has a 10% better chance of precipitation over the same period.

It appears that Bellemont bore the brunt of the storm today with snow turning to mostly rain in Flagstaff. Snow started to fall in Flagstaff about 4 p.m.

Weather may be nasty for this weekend

WILLIAMS — This afternoon winds of up to 18 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph are expected turning to higher winds with gusts of 34 mph possible.

Tonight there is a 10% chance of rain tonight with a 40% chance of rain and snow tomorrow. There is a 50% chance of rain and snow Friday night before 11 and snow thereafter. Less than a half-inch is expected.

Saturday there is a 40% chance of thunder showers after 11 a.m. with a slight reduction in wind. The chance of rain drops to 20% Saturday overnight.

On Mother’s Day there is a 10% chance of rain during the day with the weather clearing out over Sunday night becoming sunny Monday with temperatures returning to the 60s and lows around 40 at night.

Two day of sun this week

rain-15-05-04-4WILLIAMS — Williams and Flagstaff share identical weather patterns through the week with Ash Fork receiving a slightly less chance of rain.

Williams and Flagstaff share an 80% chance of rain today lowering to 60% through Tuesday. Tuesday night there is a 40% chance of rain. Wednesday is expected to be sunny with Thursday being breezy. Thurday night the chance of thunderstorms picks up again and lasts through Saturday during the day.

Ash Fork has a similar pattern except that the town has a 10% less chance of rain through Tuesday night. The chance of rain picks up on Thursday through Friday during the day becoming sunny Saturday during the day and partly cloudy at night.

Williams weekend dampened

Snow-15-04-26-8WILLIAMS — Although the rain and snow of the weekend is welcome to a parched land, it cancelled the spring festival at Cureton Park and caused the carnival to remove quickly. Overnight Williams received a dusting of snow covering the hills.

Small amounts of snow was falling Sunday, but mostly thundershowers and rain are expected the rest of today through tonight.

The weather is expected to clear tomorrow with temperatures rising to the 70s during the day and around 40s at night.

Snow in the weekend forecast

snow131204-06WILLIAMS — The weekend weather for Williams and Flagstaff include a chance of snow Sturday and Sunday. Ash Fork can expect rain showers and cooler temperatures.

In Williams and Flagstaff there is a chance of thunderstorms after 11 a.m. with wind gusts up to 30 mph. Tomorrow there is a chance of thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Rain showers are predicted before 11 p.m. Rain and snow is expected after 11 p.m. with an accumulation of 1 inch possible. Snow and rain may continue Sunday morning with about a half-inch of new snow accumulation possible. High winds are expected throughout the weekend.

Ash Fork can expect rain tonight through Sunday with high winds.

The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of showers starting tomorrow for Williams and Flagstaff.

The two cities share approximately the same weather pattern with a 10 percent chance of showers Wednesday after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. South wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. There is a 10 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. South southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming east southeast in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.

The chance of showers continues with a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after Thursday 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 30%. At night a 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Friday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52 and a low around 30 at night. Saturday is about the same with a high near 58 and a low around 31.

Sunday will be Sunny, with a high near 61 and a low around 34.

Ash Fork should be partly cloudy, with a low around 35. Southeast wind 12 to 17 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mphWednesday Night. There is a 30% chance of thunderstorms after 11 a.m. through Thursday night. The expected high near 61.

There is a chance of showers Friday through the night with a high near 60 and a low around 34. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday. Mostly sunny, with a high near 66 and a low around 36. Sunday is expected to be Sunny, with a high near 69 and a low of 36 at night.

Williams gets snow, clears tomorrow

640-1715-01WILLIAMS — Williams received a dusting of snow over night and a 20% chance for more remains until 11 a.m. The weather turns to a chance of rain throughout the rest of the day.

The predicted weather for tomorrow is sunny for the free weekend at the Grand Canyon. The temperatures will raise to the mid-60s through Wednesday with lows between 30 and 35.
