This young man wanted a dog for Christmas. But for a very special reason.

Preston Sharp chose to adopt Rusty over a laptop to help a veteran in need.

REDDING, CALIFORNIA —Preston Sharp lives in Redding, California. He is well known among veterans as he spends his spare time laying flowers and wreaths on the graves of veterans and visiting veterans. He has received awards from veterans groups such as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He stunned all of his friends on Facebook with a simple request. He asked for supplies for a dog that he asked his mother to adopted instead of a laptop that he was wanting.

But this is no ordinary adoption.

He was visiting a veterans home and was talking to a veteran. He learned that the veteran lived with a dog in a van for seven-years before his health became poor and he had to move into the veterans home. The veteran had to give up his dog, Rusty, to his cousin who lives four-hours away from the home. Instead of the laptop that he wanted for Christmas, he asked his mother if he could adopt Rusty so the dog could visit his veteran friend anytime he wants.

Preston is asking for donations to care for the animal. You can also send donations for his continuing efforts to take care of veterans memorials and grave sites. You can address them to Preston Sharp, PO BOX 493792 Redding CA 96049.

Bowe Bergdahl gets leave cut short when found during a pot raid.

2014-8aug-07-bowe-in-uniform-ft-sam-nbcMendocino County, CALIFORNIA — Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. Army deserter who was traded for four terrorists, was “detained” in Mendocino County, California at a marijuana raid while on leave.

According to FOX news, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s office took Bergdahl into custody during a raid in Redwood City by the county’s Marijuana Eradication team. The team found 180 mature marijuana plants growing at the house.

It was determined that Bergdahl was not part of the operation and was released to the U.S. Army North command where he is stationed. Sheriff officials said it is not unusual to release persons who might find themselves in a situation where they did not know the plants were growing.

Army spokesperson Cynthia O. Smith confirmed to FOX news that Bergdahl was returned to his duty station at Fort Sam Houston in Texas and has not been charged with any crime involving his time on leave.

Tennessee Pastor and veteran completes 3,200-Mile National Prayer Walk

PC_EndofTrail1SANTA MONICA — Tennessee Pastor Walter “Chick” McGill passed through Williams on a blistery February day this year carrying the flag. His goal was to carry the flag from Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina to Santa Monica pier. The 69 year-old Vietnam veteran completed the 3,200-mile journey on April 29.

Pastor McGill was greeted by supporters and social media contacts. Los Angeles-based ABC Eyewitness News 7 documented his arrival at the Pier.

640-McGill-01Pastor McGill hand-carried his large American flag the full distance from coast to coast and saluted every passing motorist on the walk route as a gesture of honor and respect for his fellow Americans. He received a “Day of Recognition” certificate from Tennessee Governor Haslam’s office in Nashville, and numerous cities along the 14-state route demonstrated recognition by giving the veteran city lapel pins, keys to their cities, city memorial coins, and certificates of appreciation. McGill received police escorts through towns in Georgia and Tennessee and was published at Wikipedia online as one who had successfully walked across America.

McGill’s “TransAmerican Crosswalk 2014,” billed as a national prayer-walk, promoted “’a new birth of freedom’ and integrity in America,” while calling attention to the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, and the nation’s founding documents.

SMART meters explode in Stockton after accident

Updated 4/2/2015, 9:49 p.m.

STOCKTON, CA [March 30]— According to CBS 13 in Stockton, California, more than 8,000 customers were left without power when their SMART meters exploded after a truck crashed into a utility pole.

Leigh Martinez reported that residents of South Stockton:

…described it as a large pop, a bomb going off, and strong enough to shake a house.

She said that more than 100 PG&E workers were working to restore power. The amount of time to restore power to a home depended on how bad the meters were damaged.

SMART meter caused fires have been suspected for some time, but utility companies are obviously reticent to reveal just how many. The California Public Utilities Commission has proposed an opt-out plan for customers who do not want the wireless technology. It would require the customer to pay additional charges.

Utility companies are allowed to sell the personal information they gain from SMART meter technology to other companies without your permission. SMART meters collect data on how you use electricity including what appliances and how you use the Internet.

Sheriff of El Dorado County strips federal law enforcement of their law enforcement powers

dagostini-01El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini has stripped the power of the forest service law enforcement to enforce State laws in his county according to CBS Sacramento.

In a letter they obtained, Sheriff D’Agostini wrote:

“I take the service that we provide to the citizens of El Dorado County and the visitors to El Dorado County very seriously, and the style and manner of service we provide. The U.S. Forest Service, after many attempts and given many opportunities, has failed to meet that standard.”

The Sheriff said that he took the action after numerous complaints.

Sheriff D’Agostini is also known for a January 2013 letter to Vice-President Biden over the proposed gun ban according to KRNV in Nevada. In the letter he wrote:

“The purpose of this letter is to go on record of re-affirming my oath of office and making it clear that I and my staff will never violate [our oath of office] by being pressured into enforcing any unconstitutional provision, law or executive order.”

He noted that disarming law-abiding citizens would not prevent guns from falling into the hands of criminals.

California Firm Expands Recall of Beef Products Due To Possible Processing Flaw

640-galinasWASHINGTON – Galant Food Company, a San Leandro, Calif. establishment, is recalling an additional 130 pounds of beef products because the meat filling used in the products did not meet its cooking critical limit, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The additional products subject to the recall include: [Labels (PDF Only)]

  • 6.5-oz. Paramount Beef and Cheese Piroshki, 12 per case, with case codes 092214
  • 7-oz. Galinas Original Beef and Cheese Piroshki, 12 per case, with case codes 092314

The products, which bear the establishment number “EST. 9014,” were produced Sept. 22 through 23, 2014 and then shipped to a distributor in the San Francisco Bay area.

The problem was discovered by the company when visiting its distributor and identifying that the products, as those in the initial recall, contained the same filling that did not reach lethality.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse illnesses due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

This is a Class I recall which means a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

Obama Urges “Wrongheaded” Americans to Trust Government More

The true theory of our Constitution is surely the wisest and best, that the states are independent as to everything within themselves, and united as to everything respecting foreign nations. Let the general government be reduced to foreign concerns only, and let our affairs be disentangled from those of all other nations, except as to commerce, which the merchants will manage the better the more they are left free to manage for themselves, and our general government may be reduced to a very simple organization, and a very unexpensive one–a few plain duties to be performed by a few servants.—Thomas Jefferson

During a speech at a fundraiser for congressional Democrats in La Jolla, California yesterday, President Barack Obama urged “wrongheaded” Americans to place more trust in the government.

Obama stated that a perception on behalf of middle class families that people in Washington did not care about them has reinforced “apathy or a lack of confidence in our government,” before he went on to blame Republicans for making Americans think, “they’re on their own and government doesn’t have an appropriate role to play.”

Obama said the Democrats’ goal in the midterms was to “break that grip” and reverse the “wrongheaded vision” that big government is not the answer.

Student: Prof Warns Ted Cruz-Teabaggers To Leave Class Or Go Home In Body Bag

AliceGilbert-500x290by Austin Yack – UC Santa Barbara on May 5, 2014

SANTA BARBARA – Alice Gilbert can vividly recall her first day of class last fall in a black studies course called “The Obama Phenomenon” offered by Professor Otis Madison at UC Santa Barbara.

That’s because before his introductory lecture was over, the scholar “warned Ted Cruz-supporting ‘teabaggers’ to get the hell out of his classroom before he sent them home to their mother in a body bag,” Gilbert said in an email interview with The College Fix.

“The comment is from memory, however there were other students with me in the class who can attest to them,” Gilbert said. “When Professor Madison made his comments in the very first lecture, I was taken aback and offended.”

Gilbert said as a conservative student, she enrolled in the course to broaden her horizons and learn about the president from a perspective other than what she is normally exposed to, but dropped it after Madison’s remarks.

She never complained to administrators.

Federal Judge Says California Attorney General Kamala Harris Wrong on Gun Control Laws

Court denies Harris’ arguments and agrees with gun rights group The Calguns Foundation, says state’s firearm waiting period laws likely fail to meet Constitutional muster

ROSEVILLE, CA — In a rejection of California Attorney General Kamala Harris’ stance on the rights of law-abiding gun owners, Senior Federal District Court Judge Anthony W. Ishii denied Harris’ motion for summary judgement today in a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by The Calguns Foundation, indicating that California’s 10-day “waiting period” gun laws are likely unconstitutional.

“The fact that a federal judge saw these laws for what they are — baseless restraints on the exercise of a fundamental civil right — is monumental,” explained Gene Hoffman, Chairman of The Calguns Foundation. “California’s waiting period laws for those who own guns is not Constitutional and this order really underlines the point.”

In his order, Judge Ishii said that Harris has “not presented sufficient evidence to show that the [10-day waiting period laws] passes either intermediate or strict scrutiny.”

About the laws being challenged in the case, named plaintiff Jeff Silvester of Hanford, California, said, “I have a license to carry a loaded firearm across the State. It is ridiculous that I have to wait another 10 days to pick up a new firearm when I’m standing there in the gun store lawfully carrying one the whole time.”

“This is certainly an exciting development in Second Amendment case law,” noted Brandon Combs, an individual plaintiff in the case and the Executive Director of The Calguns Foundation. “If our Constitution means what it says, then California’s gun waiting period laws have to be overturned and law-abiding people must be allowed to exercise their rights without irrational infringements.”

American Humane Association monitor Gina Johnson confided in an email to a colleague on April 7, 2011, about the star tiger in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. While many scenes featuring “Richard Parker,” the Bengal tiger who shares a lifeboat with a boy lost at sea, were created using CGI technology, King, very much a real animal, was employed when the digital version wouldn’t suffice. “This one take with him just went really bad and he got lost trying to swim to the side,” Johnson wrote. “Damn near drowned.”

King’s trainer eventually snagged him with a catch rope and dragged him to one side of the tank, where he scrambled out to safety.

“I think this goes without saying but DON’T MENTION IT TO ANYONE, ESPECIALLY THE OFFICE!” Johnson continued in the email, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “I have downplayed the f— out of it.”

As a representative of the American Humane Association — the grantor of the familiar “No Animals Were Harmed” trademark accreditation seen at the end of film and TV credits — it was Johnson’s job to monitor the welfare of the animals used in the production filmed in Taiwan. What’s more, Johnson had a secret: She was intimately involved with a high-ranking production exec on Pi. (AHA’s management subsequently became aware of both the relationship and her email about the tiger incident, which others involved with the production have described in far less dire terms.) Still, Pi, which went on to earn four Oscars and $609 million in global box office, was awarded the “No Animals Were Harmed” credit.
