Plan for lane restriction on State Route 89A in Cottonwood March 3

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Cottonwood area drivers to plan for a lane closure on northbound State Route 89A on Friday, March 3.

Drivers should allow for extra travel time while the following daytime restriction is in place from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Northbound SR 89A will be narrowed to one lane roughly between 12th and Main streets (milepost 353).
  • The sidewalk will be closed and pedestrian traffic diverted to the south side of the roadway at the intersections of 12th Street/SR 89A and Main Street/SR 89A.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

The restriction is needed so crews can safely complete roadway repairs. Due to inclement weather, dates and times are subject to change.

ADOT to finish State Route 260 widening project in Camp Verde

PHOENIX – After a wet and cold fall that forced an early winter hiatus, the Arizona Department of Transportation is set to return later this month to complete a State Route 260 widening project that will enhance travel and mobility between Camp Verde and Cottonwood.

Starting April 17, crews will begin laying the final layer of asphalt along the widened 9-mile stretch of SR 260. Paving will take about two weeks and require lane closures in each direction while crews work.

After paving is complete, crews will add permanent lane stripes, rumble strips and pavement reflectors. In all, the work is expected to take about six weeks.

The $62 million project widened SR 260 between Interstate 17 and Thousand Trails Road to a four-lane divided highway and added seven roundabouts to major intersections, including two new locations for future development.

The widening project also added a multi-use path between Wilshire and Cherry Creek roads and a new bridge over Cherry Creek.

Pavement work on State Route 89A between Cottonwood and Sedona begins in early September

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for delays on State Route 89A between Cottonwood and Sedona this fall while a pavement-repair project is underway.

Crews will have lane closures in place in both directions Mondays through Fridays from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 4 and continue through November.

Drivers should always proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

Allow extra travel time on State Route 260 east of Cottonwood next week

Motorists traveling on State Route 260 should allow extra time while surface sealant is applied on two miles of the highway east of Cottonwood. Work will occur between mileposts 209 and 211 on Monday, May 22, and Tuesday, May 23, during daylight hours.

The roadway will be reduced to one lane with a pilot car guiding alternating traffic through the work zone. Drivers should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes; observe reduced speed limits; and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.

ADEQ Announces $37,734 Brownfield Grant Award to the City of Cottonwood, Yavapai, AZ

PHOENIX – Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) officials announced today a $37,734 Brownfields Grant award to the City of Cottonwood to revitalize the downtown area by performing an Asbestos and Lead-Based Paint Abatement on the Cottonwood Civic Center. The remodeling of this historic building is a step in the process of bringing new life to the historic Old Town Cottonwood district.

The Cottonwood Civic Center was built in 1939 using local sandstone and river rock and partially funded by the Works Progress Administration. The building has fallen into disrepair due to the expense of removing the lead-based paint and asbestos found in the construction materials. The Brownfields Grant abatement was scheduled for completion March 3, 2017.

SR 260 improvement project to begin next week near Camp Verde

PHOENIX – To enhance safety and improve traffic flow in a growing area of the Verde Valley, the Arizona Department of Transportation is set to begin upgrading nine miles of State Route 260 to four-lane divided highway between Camp Verde and Cottonwood west of Interstate 17.

The $62 million project, scheduled to start Monday, March 6, also will create seven roundabout intersections at Thousand Trails Road, Coury Drive, Cherry Creek Road, Horseshoe Bend Drive, Wilshire Road and two locations that will accommodate future development.

The work will pick up from the two miles of divided highway that stretch from the edge of Cottonwood down to Thousand Trails Road and also tie in to the roundabout construction on SR 260 east of I-17 at Industrial Drive, a busy commercial area of Camp Verde.

“Once completed, the project will provide safer and easier travel for local residents and visitors in the Verde Valley region,” said Alvin Stump, district engineer for ADOT’s Northwest District.

Crews will start just west of I-17 at Wilshire Road and will begin dirt excavation. One travel lane in each direction, the current number, will be maintained throughout the project. ADOT will work to keep drivers up to date on any necessary closures or restrictions.

The project is expected to be completed in approximately 18 months.

The City of Cottonwood applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 1.5 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the City of Cottonwood Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to the Del Monte Wash in the Verde River Basin in Township 16 N, Range 3 E, Section 32, in Yavapai County, Arizona. The Cottonwood WWTP is a publicly owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential, commercial, and industrial sources in the City of Cottonwood. Sludge is dewatered for land application by a contractor. Variances from the Verde River standards for nitrogen and phosphorus are proposed in the draft permit.

Northbound lane restriction for I-17 just past Camp Verde interchange begins Sunday night

Motorists traveling northbound on I-17 through Camp Verde should allow for extra travel time while lane restrictions are in place to accommodate work at the Verde River Bridge (MP 287 – 288) just north of the State Route 260 interchange.

A one-lane restriction for northbound travel will be in place continuously beginning Sunday (May 8) at 7 p.m. and ending Friday (May 20) at 12 noon.

Vehicles wider than 12’ will require to travel via detour to SR 260 via Exit 287 at the Camp Verde Traffic Interchange, to State Route 89A, then continuing to State Route 179 and departing via Exit 298 to continue northbound travel on I-17.

Please observe reduced speed limits and allow for extra travel time while traveling through the work zone.

Public Meeting for State Route 260 widening set for May 20 in Camp Verde

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, will host a public information meeting on Wednesday, May 20, in Camp Verde to discuss the upcoming State Route 260 widening project that is slated to begin in spring 2016.

The $62 million safety improvement project in Yavapai County will upgrade a nine-mile segment of SR 260 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane, modern divided highway east of Cottonwood between Thousand Trails Road and the Interstate 17 junction in Camp Verde (mileposts 209-218).

This project is the final step in transforming SR 260 into a continuous four-lane divided highway between the I-17/SR 260 junction and Cottonwood to enhance safety and improve traffic flow for the Greater Verde Valley area, which includes the communities of Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Jerome, Sedona and Camp Verde.

The project will include the construction of seven full-access roundabout intersections at Thousand Trails Road, Coury Drive, Cherry Creek Road, Horseshoe Bend Drive, Wilshire Road and two new locations to accommodate future traffic demands and meet the forecasted commercial and residential development in the area.

The May 20 meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (presentation starts at 6 p.m.) at the Cliff Castle Casino Hotel, 555 Middle Verde Road in Camp Verde. Members of the project team will be available to provide information, answer questions and discuss the project.

Utility work scheduled on SR 89A at Sixth Street in Cottonwood

COTTONWOOD — Utility work is scheduled on State Route 89A in Cottonwood at Sixth Street tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8 between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Northbound SR 89A at Sixth Street (milepost 352) will be narrowed to one lane to provide a safe work zone for utility crews. Minimal delays expected during work hours.
