Happy Mother’s Day
Anna’s Grand Canyon Cafe prepares Mother’s Day present
WILLIAMS — If you are looking for someplace to take Mom this Sunday, Anna at the Grand Canyon Coffee and Cafe in the Red Garter Inn has prepared a musical present.
The Coffee and Cafe will present their second musical guest on the pet-friendly patio this Sunday, May 10. Daniel H. Volkart Facebook will perform beginning at 10:30.
If you are looking for presents for Mom, you might want to check out Old Trail’s True Value Hardware on Airport Road. She could probably use that rechargeable, reversible drill or new power mower.
Orrr…. Maybe you might want to consider an outdoor table set so she can enjoy the summer. How about a barbeque grill so that she can enjoy Mother’s day every Saturday or Sunday when you do the cooking? Maybe you could replace that shower head with a massage unit. With water rates rising soon, it might be time to replace that leaky water faucet for her.
If you have these or any other home improvement plans that she might have mentioned, check out True Value. They speak hardware.
POW remembrance day this Thursday
Arizona Revised Statute 1-301 designates the April 9 as Prisoners of War Remembrance day. This is not a legal holiday.
The law further declares that the governor make a proclamation to “…commemorate the sacrifices of men and women who suffered captivity in foreign lands while in the service of our country.”
It further requires that the governor urge teachers and students of the schools of this State observe this day with appropriate exercises and encourage citizens to contemplate the plight of Americans who have been held captive of an enemy nation.
The Northern Arizona Gazette urges that the Governor and Arizona Legislature use this opportunity to demand that the Prisoners Of War from the Vietnam conflict be be allowed access to the records and documents concerning their time as prisoners in the conflict. The current administration—applauded by Senator John McCain—has denied prisoners of war from Vietnam access even to their own records. These are the only records held secret by the U.S. Government. The regular service records of Vietnam veterans—or any other veteran—and POW records from other wars are not held secret.
One must wonder why John McCain demand all records remain secret.
Thanks to those volunteers who helped for Easter
WILLIAMS — Though a record crowd did not show up for the community Easter Egg Hunt, the volunteers still worked hard to set up the event.
Not only did they set up and clean up, they fed the hungry crowd and handed out prizes to the hunters.
Not pictured are the number of police, Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and other public safety officials who kept the peace missing out on the festivities.

Methodist church celebrates St. Patrick’s day
WILLIAMS — the annual Saint Patrick’s day corned beef and cabbage dinner at the United Community Methodist church of Williams seem to be a big success last night. The church is led by pastor Billy Martin.
The volunteers from the congregation spent a day cooking a great meal of corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and carrots, and baking soda bread. Some volunteers donated cupcakes, cookies, brownies and desserts.
They even cleaned up afterwards.
The united Methodist church conducts this event each year in addition to their other community service. The church holds normal Sunday Services as well as Bible studies on Wednesdays. They also have a weekly dinner prior to the Bible study on Wednesday.
Happy President’s Day
Impressed with a conviction that the due administration of justice is the firmest pillar of good Government, I have considered the first arrangement of the Judicial department as essential to the happiness of our Country, and to the stability of its political system; hence the selection of the fittest characters to expound the law, and dispense justice, has been an invariable object of my anxious concern. — Letter to U.S. Attorney General Edmund Randolph (September 28,61 1789). To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace. — First Annual Address, to both Houses of Congress (8 January 1790).
A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well-digested plan is requisite; and their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories as tend to render them independent of others for essential, particularly military, supplies. — First Annual Address, to both House of Congress (8 January 1790).
No punishment in my opinion is too great for the Man who can build his greatness upon his Country’s ruin. — George Washington to President of Congress Joseph Reed, 12/12/1778, The Writings of George Washington, 13:383).
