Overnight work Sunday night on Interstate 17 for pavement work

The Arizona Department of Transportation will perform routine pavement maintenance overnight on northbound Interstate 17 at the Sunset Point traffic interchange (milepost 252) on Sunday, May 3 between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Drivers traveling through the work zone will be required to use the off and on-ramp at Sunset Point to continue on northbound I-17 during work hours. Minimal delays expected.

Crews will also be working on southbound I-17 near the Bumble Bee traffic interchange (mileposts 246 to 249) on a three-mile segment for pavement repair on May 3 that will require a lane restriction between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The speed limit through the work zones will be reduced to 45 mph during work hours.

Paving project on Interstate 17 between SR 169 and Middle Verde begins tonight

PRESCOTT — The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin an overnight paving project tonight, April 29 on Interstate 17 to repave a 12-mile segment between State Route 169 and the Middle Verde traffic interchange (mileposts 279 to 291).

Work hours are Sunday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day. This week, crews will place temporary concrete barrier at the General Crook exit (milepost 285). The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone to 55 mph, minimal delays expected.

This $7.5 million project consists of the removal of a layer of the existing pavement, repaving the roadway, bridge work and shoulder improvements. Work is expected to be complete by September.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

Five ADOT projects start April 20

ARIZONA — ADOT reminds travelers that five projects are scheduled to start Monday, April 20 around our area.

1. Maintenance work on Milton Road (SR 89A) under Santa Fe Railroad Bridge in Flagstaff April 20

Travelers heading through Flagstaff need to allow for extra travel time Monday, April 20, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as ADOT crews perform maintenance operations under the Santa Fe Railroad Bridge on Milton Road (SR 89A). One lane of travel will be closed in each direction during the scheduled work. Drivers are asked to allow for extra travel time to reach their destinations and use caution while maintenance is performed in the area.

2. Overnight dirt haul on SR 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley continues

Traffic on State Route 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley (mileposts 320 to 325) will be required to stop intermittently, weather permitting, for the next three weeks to allow trucks to safely cross the highway.

The hauling operation will resume on Monday, April 20 and continue through Friday, May 8.

Overnight work hours are Monday through Friday between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night and intermittent closures are expected for dirt hauling. Drivers can expect overnight delays of up to 10 minutes for the next three weeks .

Upon completion of the $17 million project, ADOT will expand the two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway along a five-mile segment of SR 89 (mileposts 320-325) between Road 4 South in Chino Valley and Deep Well Ranch Road in Prescott, just north of the SR 89/SR 89A junction. The project is expected to be complete by August.

3. Lane restrictions overnight on Interstate 17 for bridge work

Work will begin on Monday, April 20 at the McGuireville traffic interchange

PRESCOTT: Overnight bridge work will begin on a two-mile segment of Interstate 17 at the McGuireville traffic interchange (mileposts 292 to 294) on Monday, April 20 and continue through Friday, May 29.

Crews are working on the McGuireville underpass overnight and drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions in both directions and a 12-foot width restriction during work hours of 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day.

This $210,000 project consists of bridge work on the McGuireville underpass.

4. Work continues on I-17 near the McGuireville Rest Area

Work will continue next week at the McGuireville rest area on Interstate 17 approximately two miles south of the State Route 179 junction (mileposts 294 to 299).

Drivers can expect a single lane restriction in both directions Monday, April 20 through Thursday, April 23 between 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Minimal delays expected.

5. Paving work continues next week on US 93 at Wickenburg Ranch

Motorists traveling along US 93 north of Wickenburg should allow extra travel time next week as crews continue with final paving on the new roundabout at the Wickenburg Ranch entrance.

Work hours are Monday, April 20 through Wednesday, April 22 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Drivers can expect intermittent single-lane restrictions on US 93 and delays of up to 15 minutes during work hours. Flaggers will direct traffic in alternating directions using the single lane that is open.

Southbound drivers on State Route 89 at the US 93 junction need to be aware of stopped traffic as a result of the scheduled paving work.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

Lane restrictions on Interstate 17 next week for pavement work

The Arizona Department of Transportation will perform routine pavement maintenance on Interstate 17 between New River and the State Route 169 traffic interchange on Monday and Tuesday, April 20 and 21 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Motorists should be prepared for alternating lane restrictions and intermittent shoulder closures between mileposts 232-273 to allow for a safe work zone for maintenance crews. Minimal delays are expected.

The speed limit through the work zones will be reduced to 45 mph during work hours.

I-17 southbound ramp to be closed at JW Powell Boulevard with detours in place

FLAGSTAFF — A one-day ramp closure and a detour to JW Powell Boulevard will be in place to prepare for and accommodate construction of a roundabout on the east end of the project area.

Access to the I-17 southbound off-ramp at Exit 337 (JW Powell Boulevard) will be closed on Wednesday, April 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., to install a temporary concrete barrier in preparation for the next phase of roundabout construction. This work is part of the intersection improvement project currently underway which includes new roundabouts and realignment of SR 89A/Beulah Boulevard.

The recommended detour for southbound I-17 connections to the Flagstaff Airport and to SR 89A is to continue southbound on I-17 past Exit 337, then exit at Kachina Trail/Mountainaire Road (Exit 333). Detour signage will be in place to assist travel in the area.

Travel through to JW Powell Boulevard via the existing roundabout will be closed to accommodate the new roundabout construction. Access to JW Powell will be maintained for both north- and southbound traffic along SR 89A via a cross-over just south of the construction zone and directed by area signage. This detour is expected to be in place until the end of June and will allow crews to build the new roundabout at the east end of JW Powell Boulevard.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

Work scheduled on southbound I-17 near McGuireville Rest Area this week

Work continues at the McGuireville rest area on Interstate 17 approximately two miles south of the State Route 179 junction (mileposts 294 to 299). Crews are working on southbound I-17 today through Friday, April 6 through April 10.

Work hours are 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day with the addition of two overnight schedules which will be tonight, April 6 and Wednesday, April 8 between 2 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Drivers southbound will be restricted to one lane through the work zone during work hours. The southbound McGuireville rest area will be closed this Friday between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. The northbound rest area will remain open. Minimal delays expected.

Maintenance work on the runaway truck ramp on I-17 south of Camp Verde this week

Landscape maintenance is scheduled on the northbound truck escape ramp this week on a four-mile segment (mileposts 282 to 286) of Interstate 17, approximately five miles south of Camp Verde. Work hours are Monday through Thursday, April 6 through April 9, between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

I-17 northbound will be narrowed to one lane and the runaway truck ramp will be closed during work hours. Drivers can expect minimal delays.

The speed limit through the work zones will be reduced to 45 mph during work hours.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.

McGuireville Rest Area work continues next week

Motorists traveling on Interstate 17 need to be aware that the northbound McGuireville rest area entrance will be closed on Thursday, April 2 between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. as crews work on the roadway, forcing the closure of the rest area.

Alternating lane restrictions in both directions are expected between 5:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. between mileposts 294 and 299 starting on Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3. The rest area will remain open during construction with the exception of Thursday, April 2.

State Route 89A switchbacks remains closed, sinkhole repairs started today

adot-logo-03aPHOENIX — Repairs of the roadway damage caused from a sinkhole started today along State Route 89A in the Oak Creek Canyon switchbacks, but the roadway remains closed (mileposts 387-390) and is expected to remain closed until later this week, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Crews used heavy equipment to excavate a six-foot deep, eight-foot wide section of the roadway today to remove loose material underneath the pavement near milepost 388, where the sinkhole was originally spotted on Saturday afternoon on the northbound lane.

After the earthwork was completed, crews filled the void with a liquid concrete-cement mix that needs to harden for at least 24 hours before the roadway can be repaved. In an effort to expedite the repairs as soon as possible, ADOT is currently contacting potential contractors to get the asphalt that will be needed to complete the paving.

Prior to construction, a team of geotechnical engineers conducted a field inspection of the sinkhole this morning and determined that it could be repaired immediately.

With SR 89A closed from the Pine Flats Campground to the Vista Point scenic overlook, the recommended detour from Sedona to Flagstaff is to take State Route 179 to Interstate 17. The detour could add up to an extra half hour of travel time for motorists commuting between Sedona and Flagstaff.

Southbound I-17 narrowed one lane overnight at SR 169 junction

adot-logo3Southbound Interstate 17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight at the State Route 169 junction, tonight and tomorrow, Jan. 15 and 16 as the Arizona Department of Transportation completes bridge maintenance work south of Camp Verde.

Normal work hours are Sunday through Thursday through the end of this month between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. daily.

A 12-foot width restriction will be in place as work occurs.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
