UPDATE: Interstate 40 ramp closures at Grand Canyon Boulevard and SR 64

WILLLIAMS – Northern Arizona motorists on Interstate 40 near Williams, west of Flagstaff, should expect ramp closures at Grand Canyon Boulevard (exit 163) and State Route 64 (exit 165) during daytime hours for paving work on December 6 and December 10 to 12.

Work is scheduled between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

Drivers are advised to follow the signed detour routes while the following on- and off-ramp closures are in place:

  • Thursday, December 6: Westbound on- and off-ramp at State Route 64 (exit 165) closed.
  • Monday, December 10: Westbound on- and off- ramp at Grand Canyon Boulevard (exit 163) closed.
  • Tuesday, December 11: Eastbound on- and off-ramp at Grand Canyon Boulevard (exit 163) closed.
  • Wednesday, December 12: Eastbound off-ramp at State Route 64 (exit 165) closed.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

The closures are necessary as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues repairing 17 miles of pavement on Interstate 40 between Parks and Williams in northern Arizona. ADOT advises drivers to use Grand Canyon Boulevard (exit 163) while the following on- and off- ramp closures are in place:

Monday, Nov. 19: Eastbound I-40 on-ramp at SR 64 between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The closures are necessary as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues repairing 17 miles of pavement on Interstate 40 between Parks and Williams in northern Arizona. Shoulder widening project underway on SR 64 near Grand Canyon Airport and Town of Tusayan

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is performing a shoulder widening project along State Route 64 (SR 64) near the town of Tusayan in Coconino County beginning at the Grand Canyon National Airport access road (milepost 234 to 235), skipping the town of Tusayan, and ending just south of the southern boundary of the Grand Canyon National Park (milepost 237).

This project is part of ADOT’s Statewide Shoulder Widening Program and will improve lane departures for motorists on SR 64.

What to expect:

  • Work to be performed during daylight hours, Monday – Thursday; Fridays as needed
  • No nighttime, weekend or holiday work is anticipated
  • Construction is anticipated to be completed fall, 2016
  • Access for both north- and southbound travel will be accommodated

During construction lane closures can be expected to accommodate crews and equipment. Traffic control will be primarily lane shifts that will allow for north- and southbound travel with minimal delays. Delays can be anticipated; please allow for extra time for travel in the construction zone.

Surface treatment to begin on SR 64 south of Valle

VALLE — Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) crews will be applying surface treatment on an 8-mile segment of State Route 64 just south of Valle (milepost 205 to 213) during daylight hours on Wednesday (June 15) through Friday (June 17). During construction the roadway will be reduced to one lane of traffic with a pilot car escort to allow for alternating travel through the work zone.

Delays to the Grand Canyon can be anticipated during construction. ADOT advises travelers to allow for extra time for travel in the area, and to watch for crews and equipment in the work zone.

US 180 narrowed to one lane north of Flagstaff beginning Monday

US 180 will be narrowed to one lane between Flagstaff and Valle (milepost 250 to 265) starting on Monday (Aug. 3) through Thursday (Aug. 6) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restriction is required to allow Arizona Department of Transportation crews to perform maintenance work on the roadway.

During maintenance operations, heavy delays can be anticipated. A pilot car will allow for alternating travel through the work zone. Please allow for extra time for travel time and exercise caution while moving through the area. Drivers should consider using I-40 and SR 64 as alternate route for travel.

Deer a plenty in Williams

Deer15-07-13-2640WILLIAMS — We are located in the high country where the deer and antelope play. Currently there are a lot of deer and elk foraging the forests around Williams and Flagstaff and all points in-between.

We remind visitors that the deer are very active around Country Club Road which is near the entrance/exit on the west end of town. They are also very active south on Perskinsville Road which leads past the Santa Fe dam. You need to keep an eye out on Highway 64 to the Grand Canyon, as well.

They are generally most active in the early morning, evening and night time hours and they can cross the road or freeway without warning. Please keep an eye on the sides of the roads and watch for them or you could have a very costly accident.

If you are camping, deer may seem tame enough to feed or pet. You might have even pet them at the Deer Farm Petting Zoo just east of Williams. In the wild, however, it is a different story. They can spook easily and attack without warning. Please watch your children while camping in the woods and do not let them explore alone.

You can generally get good photos from your vehicle or from a safe distance. Use your zoom.

Final paving to resume on US 180 from Flagstaff to Snow Bowl June 1

sf-peaksFLAGSTAFF — After a winter hiatus, the Arizona Department of Transportation is returning next week to apply the top layer of asphalt along a five-mile segment of US 180 from Schultz Pass to Bader roads (mileposts 214-219).

The work is part of a pavement preservation project that started in summer 2014, but work had to be temporarily suspended until warmer temperatures allowed for the final paving.

The work will occur daily, Monday, June 1 through Saturday, June 6, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Additional work may be necessary throughout the month and additional traffic alerts will be issued in advance of those operations.

During paving operations, the two-lane roadway will be reduced to one lane. Pilot cars will allow for alternating travel and delays can be expected in both directions.

Motorists interested in traveling to the Grand Canyon National Park can use Interstate 40 to State Route 64 in Williams west of Flagstaff as an alternate route.

SR 64 east of the Grand Canyon National Park reduced to one lane

Grand_CanyonGRAND CANYON — Motorists traveling on State Route 64 just east of the Grand Canyon National Park can expect delays up to 30 minutes while the Arizona Department of Transportation crews apply a pavement preservation treatment on the roadway this Wednesday and Thursday, May 6-7 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.

During the work, one lane of travel will be closed with a pilot car providing for alternating travel through the work zone. ADOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and observe posted restrictions while crews work in the area.
